On Friday, Prime Minister Modi is set to embark on his tour of Maharashtra, commencing in Nashik, where he will officially inaugurate the 27th National Youth Festival. The Prime Minister’s office announced on Thursday that Modi will also inaugurate the Mumbai Trans-Harbor Link (MTHL), the country’s longest sea bridge, on January 12 as part of his day-long visit to Maharashtra. The projects to be inaugurated and dedicated by the Prime Minister during his visit are valued at Rs 30,500 crore.

Among these projects is the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewari-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu, a six-lane bridge constructed at a cost of Rs 17,480 crore. This 16.5 km sea bridge and a 5.5 km land stretch will significantly reduce travel time from Mumbai to Pune, Goa, and South India, providing quicker access to Mumbai International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport. The toll for a one-way trip on the bridge is set at Rs 250.

The Prime Minister’s schedule for the day includes starting the tour in Nashik, followed by the inauguration of the Atal Setu in Mumbai at 3:30 pm. Subsequently, he will attend a public event in Navi Mumbai, where he will dedicate, inaugurate, and lay the foundation for various development projects totaling over Rs 12,700 crore.

Officials from the state government anticipate a gathering of approximately one lakh people, mainly women, at the public meetings. This aligns with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s ambitious agenda announced after the recent approval of the women’s reservation bill in Parliament.

As per a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi will lay the foundation stone for an underground road tunnel connecting Marine Drive and the orange gate of the Eastern Freeway. The construction cost of this 9.2 km tunnel is estimated to be over Rs. 8700 crore. Additionally, the first phase of the Rs 75 crore Surya regional bulk drinking water project will be dedicated during the visit, along with a commitment of Rs 2000 crore towards railway projects.

The visit will also see the introduction of the Namo Mahila Shashaktikaran Abhiyaan, an initiative aimed at empowering women in Maharashtra through entrepreneurship development and skill training. Implemented by Umed, a division of the Department of Women and Child Welfare, the initiative seeks to integrate women’s development initiatives from both the federal and state governments.
