On Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to address a substantial gathering of women at the BJP’s Mahila Conference in Thrissur, Kerala, under the banner of “Stree Shakti Modik Oppam” (Empower women with Modi). The event is expected to draw participants from diverse backgrounds, including social activists, MGNREGA employees, artists, ASHA workers, Anganwadi teachers, and entrepreneurs. Notable personalities such as musician Vaikom Vijayalakshmi, cricketer Minnu Mani, businesswoman Beena Kannan, and actress Shobhana are also slated to attend, according to Kerala BJP head K. Surendran.

The occasion coincides with the successful passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill in both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha, prompting accolades for Prime Minister Modi. Surendran commended the BJP’s women empowerment initiatives, stating, “PM Narendra Modi’s women empowerment resonates in the hearts of all women across the country.”
Beyond its celebratory nature, the event serves the dual purpose of formally launching the BJP’s poll campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and emphasizing the party’s ambition to enhance its social prominence in Kerala. Expectations are high for more national figures to visit the southern state in the lead-up to the general elections, as per state BJP leaders.
Prime Minister Modi is set to kick off the poll campaign by addressing an assembly of nearly 2 lakh women in Thrissur. The gathering, although presented as a significant women’s event, is seen as the official commencement of the BJP’s campaign for the general elections. This move is strategic, aiming to gain political traction in Kerala, currently under the control of the Congress-led UDF and the CPI(M)-led LDF.
In addition to addressing the women’s meeting, PM Modi will participate in a road show. The event is designed not only to express gratitude for the Women’s Reservation Bill but also to mark the beginning of the BJP’s electoral efforts in the region. State BJP leaders, including Surendran, anticipate a political downturn for both the opposition UDF and the ruling LDF in the coming days.
