What Firhad Hakim said to the media

In response to Bakshi’s statements, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh, known for his affiliation with Abhishek Banerjee, demanded a retraction of Bakshi’s remarks. Firhad Hakim, who also serves as Kolkata’s mayor, responded by stressing that new party leaders should delve into the TMC’s history of struggles. During a media interaction on Tuesday, Hakim acknowledged the party’s efforts and acknowledged conflicts between its leaders.

Mamata is leader, Hakim says

Hakim asserted Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, stating, “I am the president of the party. It is my responsibility to keep everyone united under Mamata Banerjee’s leadership. What’s wrong with that? I don’t believe the leadership is being shifted to anyone. Mamata Banerjee is the leader.”

Downplaying any perception of discord within the party, especially with the parliamentary elections approaching, Hakim commented, “There is no internal strife before the Parliament elections. Conflicts arise in a large party like ours. If there is an issue, we can resolve it. Why should there be any conflict for that?”

Hakim accused government authorities of passing new laws

Hakim also accused the central government of enacting new laws affecting truck drivers without proper consultation with the opposition, claiming a disregard for the common people’s interests. He criticized the passing of undemocratic bills by individuals like Amit Shah and emphasized the importance of dialogue before implementing such legislation.
