In preparation for the inauguration of the Ram Temple on January 22, the Ayodhya railway station has been officially renamed Ayodhya Dham. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to unveil the station’s new structure on December 30, ahead of the grand event.
The city’s railway station has undergone this transformation in anticipation of the consecration event of the Ram Lalla idol, expected to be attended by more than 6,000 people, including Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Prior to the consecration event on January 22, PM Modi is set to conduct a roadshow and address a public gathering. Reports suggest that he inaugurated an airport near the temple town of Ayodhya on December 30. Additionally, the prime minister will inaugurate the new train station building, located adjacent to the old one, on the same day.
The redeveloped Ayodhya train station is touted as a modern establishment with amenities akin to an airport, featuring a façade inspired by ancient temple architecture. Security personnel and officials from various agencies are overseeing preparations as construction workers strive to complete their tasks before the prime minister’s visit.
RITES (Rail India Technical and Economic Service) Limited, a central public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Railways, has been spearheading the redevelopment work for several years. Ayodhya’s popular avenues, including the Ram Path, have been adorned with Hindu-themed artwork as the city readies itself for the significant event. The government’s focus on improving infrastructure aligns with efforts to facilitate the movement of passengers and devotees visiting Ayodhya for the temple “darshan.”
The first phase of the Ayodhya railway station’s construction, initiated in November 2018 and completed within a budget of 240 crore, boasts excellent facilities. Spanning 10,000 square meters with three platforms, the station, managed by RITES, includes features such as parking, staff housing, escalators, elevators, air-conditioned waiting areas, a food court, and dormitories for both genders.
The station’s main edifice is designed after the Ram Mandir, incorporating pyramid-like structures and shikhars. The pink Bansi Paharpur stone from Rajasthan, the same used in the Ram Mandir’s construction, enhances the station’s aesthetic. A budget of Rs 480 crore has been allocated for the upcoming second phase of construction.

In addition to these developments, Prime Minister Modi is expected to inaugurate the Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport in Ayodhya on December 30.
