On Sunday, Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi responded to remarks made by DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran, who had suggested that Hindi speakers from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh come to Tamil Nadu for jobs like cleaning toilets and construction work. In her reaction, Lekhi criticized Maran, stating that individuals like him spread discord in the country. She emphasized that some people choose to contribute positively, such as those engaged in jobs like cleaning, while others, like Maran, engage in spreading negativity.

The Ghamandiya alliance, as termed by BJP MLA Kailash Vijayvargiya, was accused of attempting to disrupt the country. Vijayvargiya asserted that such divisive talks occur, and the Congress remains silent in response. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad condemned Maran’s comments as “shameful” and called for an end to insulting the hardworking men from Bihar.

Dayanidhi Maran’s further derogatory comments about Bihari boys drew strong criticism. Prasad reminded that the people of Bihar have their own culture and tradition, and if there is no employment opportunity in Bihar under Nitish Kumar’s government, they migrate for work. Union Minister Nityanand Rai echoed similar sentiments, stating that individuals like Maran aim to create division in the country.

The controversy escalated as Nityanand Rai demanded Bihar events in the INDIA bloc to disassociate from Maran’s statements. He emphasized the contradiction between PM Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ and the attempts to divide North and South India. Rai called for Bihar events to reject Maran’s remarks, highlighting the need to uphold unity.

The dispute originated from a viral clip featuring DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran, where he implied that Hindi speakers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar engage in menial jobs in Tamil Nadu. The remarks triggered a strong response from various political figures, including Union Ministers and party spokespersons.

Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij commented on the situation, noting that some political entities are attempting to sow division among the people but have not succeeded. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla pointed out a pattern of divisive comments from various political leaders and questioned the stance of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD President Lalu Yadav and Tejasvi Yadav on the issue.
