The Congress party’s donation campaign, “Donate for Desh,” aimed at mobilizing resources for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, has successfully raised Rs 3 crore within just 48 hours. This impressive feat was achieved through contributions from a substantial number of donors, totaling 1,13,000 individuals.

As of 9 am on Wednesday, the party had already collected Rs 2.81 crore from 1,13,713 donors. Notably, the majority of contributors gave Rs 138, aligning with the party’s celebration of its 138th anniversary.

Congress Donation Campaign 

Only 32 individuals made larger donations of Rs 1.38 lakh, including prominent figures such as Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Ashok Gehlot, CP Joshi, Niranjan Patnaik, Sushil Kumar Shinde, TS Singh Deo, Jairam Ramesh, and Pawan Khera.

The campaign witnessed significant online traffic, with over 1.1 million visitors to the Donate Inc.In website, despite facing challenges such as 20,000 bot attacks and over 1,300 attempts at unauthorized access.

Participation of people in the ‘Donate for Desh’ campaign  

To further enhance public participation and funding, the Congress party is planning subsequent steps. This includes establishing connections with the party, deploying principal observers to states for active involvement of local leaders, and conducting a door-to-door campaign targeting at least ten people per booth in every constituency nationwide.

In a novel approach, the Congress party will seek financial contributions during public rallies through QR codes, demonstrating a commitment to leveraging technology for fundraising. Additionally, the party plans to capitalize on the popularity of Rahul Gandhi by selling autographed T-shirts and caps.

Top Donor states in Congress donation campaign 

The top donor states in the ongoing campaign include Maharashtra (Rs 56 lakh), Rajasthan (Rs 26 lakh), Delhi (Rs 20 lakh), Uttar Pradesh (Rs 19 lakh), and Karnataka (Rs 18 lakh). Interestingly, 81% of the donations were made through the UPI payment method, while 8% were contributed via credit cards. Although Bihar had the highest number of donors, their contributions were in smaller amounts.
