The Congress party is set to launch the “Donate for Desh” online crowdfunding campaign on December 18, marking its 138th anniversary. AICC treasurer Ajay Maken and General Secretary K C Venugopal announced this initiative during a press conference in New Delhi, drawing inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s historic “Tilak Swaraj Fund” established between 1920 and 1921.
According to Venugopal, the campaign aims to empower the party and follows Gandhi’s principles. Maken emphasized that “Donate for Desh” is a comprehensive initiative encompassing a series of campaigns. To commemorate the 138th Congress year, contributions in multiples of 138 are encouraged.
As the year concludes, Maken urged supporters to contribute Rs 138, Rs 1,380, or Rs 13,800 to fortify the party and contribute to India’s improvement. Online donation links went live on December 18 through the official INC website and a dedicated online portal.

Maken called on state-level office bearers, elected representatives, and party committees to identify potential donors and strive for contributions. He suggested a calculated approach, encouraging donations of at least Rs 1,380, ensuring the realization of their vision for a better India.
The announcement, seemingly influenced by the Aam Aadmi Party’s crowdfunding model, comes in light of the Congress party’s apparent financial challenges. Maken highlighted the BJP’s declared assets of Rs. 6,046.81 crore compared to the Congress’s Rs. 805.68 crore in 2023, coupled with a decline in corporate donations.
To promote the campaign, Maken urged Pradesh Committee leaders to utilize press conferences, social media, and an in-person campaign involving volunteers reaching ten homes in each polling place. Donors, required to be Indian citizens above eighteen, will receive donation certificates.
Maken extended an invitation to all individuals in the nation to support the party, join the Congress, and participate in its ideological struggle. Emphasizing the role of a robust Opposition, he stated, “We invite them to join the Congress and the battle our leaders are fighting, in the role of a strong Opposition.”
