General Manoj Pande, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), announced on Thursday that the introduction of the Agnipath scheme represents a groundbreaking approach to recruiting and managing personnel. The initiative aims to ensure the induction of younger, technologically savvy soldiers across all ranks, promising a more focused and adept force.

Speaking at the convocation cum scroll presentation function at the College of Military Engineering (CME) in Pune, General Manoj Pande highlighted the significance of the Agnipath scheme. According to him, the plan not only ensures the induction of young talent but also guarantees the retention of the finest personnel as core members.

In addition to discussing the Agnipath scheme, General Manoj Pande underscored the vital role of cutting-edge technology in the armed forces. He encouraged a problem-solving and innovative mindset among engineers, emphasizing the need for officers to act as mentors. The Army Chief stressed the importance of staying abreast of technological advancements in combat engineering, citing the use of drone surveys, augmented and virtual reality, and their applications to visualize and simulate project scenarios.

General Pande asserted that the adoption of new-age technology should extend beyond traditional methods. He outlined four key reasons for this transformation: the evolving nature of warfare, significant changes in socioeconomic conditions, the destructive potential of technology, and unprecedented trends in the geostrategic landscape.

A year ago, the Army implemented a transformation roadmap to address these imperatives and adapt to the changing landscape. General Manoj Pande emphasized the need for steady progress to ensure sustained attention and energy across all pillars of the redesign roadmap.
