The leader of the Rajasthan BJP, Diya Kumari, clarified on Sunday that the party’s leadership would be responsible for selecting the Chief Minister, addressing inquiries about her potential candidacy.
Responding to questions about her aspirations for the Chief Minister’s role, Diya Kumari, the current Member of Parliament for the Bharatiya Janata Party representing Jaipur’s Vidyadhar Nagar seat, emphasized that the decision would be made by the party leaders. In an interview, when pressed about her willingness to accept the position, she asserted, “The party’s members in charge will decide that.”
Diya Kumari expressed her motivation to become the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, citing the affection of the people as her driving force. She specified that the decision-making authority on the matter would rest with the Parliamentary Board.
Regarding the prospects of the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Diya Kumari conveyed optimism, stating, “The BJP will perform exceptionally well, winning more seats than before.” She celebrated the party’s success in gaining ground in three states, attributing it to the public’s rejection of the allegedly corrupt Congress management in favor of the BJP’s growth-oriented approach.

As a woman with a royal background and the current MP from Rajsamand, Diya Kumari has been identified as a key figure in diminishing the influence of the Vasundhara factor. Originating from a social work background and a member of the Rajput clan, her recognition in Sawai Madhopur grew due to her developmental initiatives in the constituency. Initially perceived as an outsider, she gained prominence despite a contentious property dispute with Vasundhara during her tenure as chief minister.
The Sanjivani Credit Cooperative Society scam triggered a public dispute between Diya Kumari and union minister Ashok Gehlot. This conflict, involving Gehlot from Jodhpur and an alternative BJP candidate, Shekhawat, intensified in 2020 with a case related to call recordings allegedly plotting to bring down the Gehlot government.
Looking ahead to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Diya Kumari’s remarks hinted at the BJP’s potential adoption of UP-style politics in Rajasthan. There is speculation that Nath, the current MP from Alwar, might be considered for the Chief Minister position. Despite contesting from the Tijara Assembly constituency, Nath’s controversial statements polarized the Tijara election.
