Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Dubai, UAE, on Thursday night to participate in the World Climate Action Summit as part of the COP28 meeting.
The Indian diaspora in Dubai welcomed him with a traditional dance performance, expressing their joy with cries of “Modi, Modi,” “Abki baar Modi Sarkar,” and “Vande Mataram,” as captured by news agency ANI.
Members of the Indian diaspora in Dubai expressed their excitement and a sense of connection, with one individual stating, “I’ve been living in the UAE for 20 years, but today, it felt as if one of my own has come to this country.” The warm welcome was highlighted by ANI, describing Prime Minister Modi as “the diamond of India,” symbolizing the country’s international dignity.

Videos showed Prime Minister Modi engaging with the diaspora, chatting, and shaking hands. A member of the Indian community expressed their thrill, urging others to follow Prime Minister Modi’s example.
Following his meeting with the Indian community in Dubai, Prime Minister Modi shared photos on social media (formerly Twitter) expressing gratitude for the extraordinary welcome. He stated that the enthusiasm and support of the Indian community in Dubai were indicative of strong bonds and cultural heritage.
The World Climate Action Summit, a key component of COP28, began on Friday, with Prime Minister Modi expected to deliver a speech at the opening session. He has committed to participating in three additional prestigious side events. Ahead of his visit, Modi emphasized the importance of COP28 in evaluating the outcomes of the Paris Agreement and setting a future direction for climate action.
The COP28 Summit, scheduled in the United Arab Emirates from November 30th to December 12th, aims to address the collaborative efforts needed to combat climate change and the necessity for financial assistance in the low-carbon transition. There are discussions about redistributing funds from developed to less developed countries to support their climate change initiatives.
In an exclusive interview with the UAE newspaper Al-Ittihad, Prime Minister Modi expressed his hope that the summit would generate fresh momentum for tangible climate action. He highlighted the commitment of both India and the UAE to collaborate for a sustainable future, stating, “We remain steadfast in our joint efforts to influence the global discourse on climate action.”

On social media, Prime Minister Modi continued to share his joy about meeting the Indian diaspora in Dubai, emphasizing the strong cultural links and legacy.
