The Journey of Fathima Beevi:
Born on April 30, 1927, in Kerala, Justice Fathima Beevi was encouraged by her father to pursue a career in law. She completed her schooling at Catholicate High School in Pathanamthitta.
After graduating from the law department of Government Law College, she was admitted as an advocate on November 14, 1950. Notably, she topped the bar council exam, becoming the first woman to be awarded the gold medal.
Commencing her career in 1950 in the lower judiciary of Kerala, Justice Beevi ascended through various ranks, holding positions such as Munsiff, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Session and District Judge, Subordinate Judge, and Judicial Member of an Income Tax Appellate Tribunal. In 1983, she became a High Court judge, and in 1989, she achieved the historic feat of becoming the first Muslim woman to serve as a Supreme Court judge.
