What Happened to ‘The Little Prince’ on Netflix?

This week we got an email from someone who wanted to replay a small princes but they were surprised to find it no longer available. Some areas still drain animated films but most are no longer. This is what we know.

PremIering at the 68th Cannes Film Festival, a small prince is one of the first big pickups for Netflix in the film arena animation feature. For those who are unconscious, this film was originally because it gets a theater release full of paramount images but for several reasons, which was finally removed and Netflix acquired rights in the US and internationally.

Directed by Mark Osbourne, this film is an adaptation of the French novel by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It displays vocal talents from several big names including Jeff Bridges, Rachel McAdams, and Paul Rudd.

Indeed, the trailer for small prince is still online complete with Netflix Original branding even though the fact is no longer available. If you sort comments to the latest first, you will see a lot of confusion why no longer available.

Why did The Little Prince leave Netflix?

Added back in August 2016, this film went to the flow for more than 4 years in our Netflix (another area varied) before first departing on November 2020. A year later, read again on November 6 2020 before it was removed again in May 2021.

So what happened? Well, like with a number of original Netflix, a small prince is not owned by Netflix. Even though it exclusively released a film, it didn’t do it indefinitely. Paramount Pictures is still the main owner of the film and therefore, Netflix loses a license despite carrying Netflix’s original branding.

For those in the United States now, you can stream movies via Video Prime even though we suspect the film will eventually stay permanently on paramount + in the near future.

Netflix Canada lost the film (even though it was not branded native Netflix there) on May 2021 was only available for three years.

Canadian follow-up documentary is also on Netflix. Directed by Charles Officer, the documentary looked at the impact of the book. The essence was not visible: The small prince arrived at Netflix we returned in January 2019 before leaving Netflix in July 2021.

Where is The Little Prince still streaming on Netflix?

Some areas still have access to films though for how long it still has to be seen.

According to UNOG, at least 7 countries still have access to films including Britain, India, Mexico, Netherlands, Mexico, and others.

There you have it, unfortunately, we don’t think the small prince will return to Netflix but it’s still an important addition to Netflix at that time.
