Alleged Jihadists had slaughtered at least 114 civilians in the north of Burkina Faso in the most deadly attack since Islamic violence erupted in the West African country in 2015, officials on June 5.
President Roch Marc Christian Kabore criticized the attack near the border with Mali and Niger where jihadists were associated with Al-Qaeda and Islamic State had targeted civilians and soldiers. “We must remain united and dense against this unclear strengths,” Kabore said, condemning the massacre that killed at least 100 people in Solhan as “Barbaric” and “despicable”
The worst attack occurred on the night of 4 to 5 June when “gunmen carried out attacks” to Solhan, said security sources.
“Toll, which is still temporary, around 100 dead people, men and women of different ages”, said the source with the government confirmed the victim.
The attacker hit around 2 am local time (730 in the morning IST) against the position of volunteer for the Motherland (VDP) defense, the power of anti-jihadist civil defense which supports the national army, before attacking the house and carrying out “execution”, the local source said.
VDP was founded in December 2019 to help Jihadist Burkina’s military fight, but has suffered more than 200 deaths, according to AFP calculations.
Volunteers are given two-week military training, and then work with security forces, usually carrying out supervision, information, or customs of comporters.
The government said in a statement that “terrorists”, the term for the jihadists, killing civilians from all ages and burning the main house and market.
“In addition to the heavy human toll, the worst is recorded to date, the house and market are burned,” said another security source, voicing concerns that “Tol while a hundred dead people can increase”.
